2025 festival of trees: quilt village

40th Anniversary Theme: Tinsel & Tradition

SHARE YOUR SHINE BY DONATING A QUILT TO QUILT VILLAGE.

Shelly was approached early 2025 to be a part of (1 of 3) new design areas at the 2025 Festival of Trees event. After several conversations and much mulling over...because did I realllly have extra time?? Wink.I decided, why not? If there is an opportunity to introduce even a few folks to the the Quilt Industry...then of course! I'm all in. So I quickly asked quilter-extraordinaries Susan Nixon and Julia Warner to co-chair and they thankfully agreed! So we have been emailing, texting, calling, video-conferencing and attending meetings (whew!) to create Quilt Village.

Your need-to-know is that the Festival of Trees occurs at the River Center in Davenport, IA, and is kicked off by a Thanksgiving Day Parade and is a fundraiser for Quad City Arts. The displays and design areas include items  that are donated by hundreds of creators and sold at the event, including Quilt Village entries/donations. So designs (aka entries, donations) must be quality and in sellable condition. Read the Small Areas Manual to learn more about the FIVE quilt categories and your quilt may even receive a ribbon, because yup, they'll get judged too.

And one amazing thing I know about quilters is how giving and thoughtful they are, so have no doubt they will donate their quilty creations to Quilt Village. And psst...each entry will receive 2 general admission tickets to Festival of Trees.  :-)

Shout out to my quilty friends (and sisters) Barb & Diane Schloemer for brainstorming the title of this new Design Area back in May. Quilt Village brings it all back around to the Festival of Trees event with its design areas such as its Tree Designs (of course!), Hearth & Home, Handcrafted Ornaments, Gingerbread Village, Petite Forest...and more! Also a pre-thank you to three of my nieces who quickly agreed to volunteer with design area set-up.

Side note: this is a volunteer-event so the community can sign up to volunteer for shifts during the event. View the Volunteer page to sign-up to work a shift.  Volunteers receive a FREE TICKET to Festival of Trees for every shift worked and I may even get to meet you during shift-change in the Volunteer Lounge (on the weekends)!

WOW!

If I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times...TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE. Pattern, Piecer, Panto, Longarmer (me, of course!) details shared in video. Shelly used her secret sauce when designing this project to prevent a "stampy" look.

Watch this video here, on my social media or my Vimeo channel. You have choices!

Thanksgiving Panel

Panels rock! So here's a fun video that was posted to QSBS's social media and Vimeo channel. Quilt details are at the end of the video (piecer, quilt top pattern, panto, etc).

It's free to create a Vimeo account and then you can Follow Quilt Stitching by Shelly there. Vimeo is where Shelly also creates (private) video content for the L&P Collective. Click here to join and receive access to the Longarmer & Piecer Collective community. Or view the L&P Collective page for details.

Sharing All This Cuteness

Sharing some cuteness to make you smile. This video is on my Quilt Stitching by Shelly public Vimeo channel also.

Quilt top pattern, Piecer and Panto info are all shared there.

Kim Diamond's Zen Bee

Kim Diamond's Zen Bee

elelKim Diamond's digital pattern: Zeen Bee Bniamond's Zen Bee pattern for some time so decided to take advantage of a brief break between customer quilts in Feb. So I pulled out some ombre fabric I've had stashed and went for it. Now folks, I know that ombre fabric doesn't always photograph well because the brightest section can draw our eye to that specific part of the fabric, but I love these particular ombre colors so much that I quilted it as is because I also knew it was going on my studio wall, so I went for it.

I originally designed the background pattern as tiny honeycombs but it didn't take long to see that it was not the one. So I ripped out the few that I quilted and shifted gears to straight-line quilting to frame the Bee. I spaced the lines 1/3" apart.

Here's the deets: OMNI 40W Orange Glow thread, Quilters Dream 80/20 wool batting, Groz-Beckert 120/19 4.5 needle and used 2.5 M-Class bobbins. Quilt is 40" x 30", SPI 13, Speed 8, stitch count of 63,087.

I shared a video about Kim's Posh Gobble quilting patterns a couple months ago, and in it I commented that Kim's quilting path is genius, and this pattern is no different. Even in this complicated and elaborate pattern, there is very little overstitching and how she draws and creates her quilting patterns means there are only necessary quilting nodes (e.g. not unnecessary, countless straight-line nodes on curved lines). Thank you Kim for your 25 years of quilting pattern experience.

Stephanie Soebbing's Fat Quarter Patchwork Quilts

Check it out...I longarmed five quilts that are in Stephanie Soebbing's (of Quilt Addicts Anonymous) new book: Fat Quarter Patchwork Quilts. It's always a pleasure being a part of Stephanie's team and I enjoy the journey each one of her quilts take me on.

Click on over to my Blog titled QSBS & Stephanie Soebbing of QAA for a few photos of the quilting for each project and have provided some fun links.
